Here's your second chance (Support groups - round 2)

I firmly believe in second chances. I think it’s pretty safe to say that at some point in our lives, we’ve all needed a second chance. I know for sure I have! With that in mind, I attended another breast cancer support group last week.

As I looked around the room and saw faces 30-40 years older than mine, I realized I was going to have a difficult time relating to most of their stories. Many of these women were diagnosed and treated before I was even born. So, while I could connect with their pleasant outlook on life, I was unable to connect with them on topics I wanted to discuss about body image, hot flashes, bras, managing a work/life balance during/after treatment, maintaining an active lifestyle, etc. I wanted so badly for this group to work but it just fell short. Plus, once again there were NO tissues. Sigh.

So, I am creating my very own support group! What’s that saying?...If you can't find it, build it!

My goal is to create a safe space where young women diagnosed in their 40’s or younger can openly discuss their experiences with breast cancer and lean on others who’ve been there or who are going through cancer and treatment at around the same point in life. There will be coffee (of course!), healthy snacks, and tissues for everyone! We will share, laugh, cry, and most importantly make new friends.

Stay tuned for dates and times.
